After graduating from Monash University in 1989 with 1st Class Honours, Dr. Szto interned at the Alfred Hospital. He undertook advanced training in Cardiology at the Alfred Hospital from 1994-95. He then pursued further interventional cardiovascular training at the Indiana Heart Institute.

On returning to Frankston in 2000, Dr. Szto was instrumental in setting up the angioplasty services at Frankston Hospital (2000) and PPH (2003). He also introduced various therapies to the Mornington Peninsula Hospitals, such as rotablator debulking of calcified coronary arteries, multi-slice cardiac CT scan (in collaboration with MIA), cardiac surgery (in collaboration with ICU, surgeons and PPH), and lately, renal artery denervation (resistant hypertension) and left atrial appendage closure (AF + stroke risk but unable to tolerate anti-coagulants). Dr. Szto also conducts many multi-national clinical trials in his practice, so that patients may benefit from early access to new therapies.

Dr. Szto strives to provide his patients with comprehensive, high quality and prompt service. His practice has efficient and courteous staff. Nursing staff are critical-care trained. Vikki O’Shea is a physician assistant as well as research coordinator, and can assist in triaging patients for admission to PPH. Tests are bulk-billed (exc. BP monitor) and performed in a timely fashion and most tests are offered and reported daily.

Dr. Szto continues to update his knowledge by attending international scientific conferences and procedural workshops. He gives talks to the local medical community as well as internationally at cardiology conferences.
